2021 Eskay Charity Golf Tournament
Friday 2nd July 2021 saw the 11th gathering of the worlds greatest golfers ( Really? Ed.) at Slinfold golf course in West Sussex. Expectations were high due to the unfortunate, but necessary cancellation of the 2020 event – pandemic related, and it’s relocation from Rusper to Slinfold, due to the sad closure of the Rusper course ( now returned to farmland).
A grey start to the day after an excellent breakfast in the Slinfold clubhouse saw tensions rise on the first tee, with almost no-one fluffing their first shot, and more surprisingly, everyone driving past the Ladies tee ( a rare occurrence in itself).
Teams of three saw the organiser Eskay Ltd’s Steve Kenward as “fourth man” and guest golfer with each time for four holes and an excellent time out was had by all, it even brightened up enough by the 16th for your author to reach for his Ray-Bans in an attempt to hide from the waiting papparazzi ( what? which course was he on? Editors Boss).
The serious business of the day was to raise cash for The Sussex Snowdrop trust, the unique local childrens’ charity providing nursing care at home, for children who have a life threatening or terminal illness. The Trust also offers emotional and financial support for their families. ” A landmark day” said Eskay organiser Steve Kenward, “our charity beneficiary today will be the Sussex Snowdrop trust, these folks do and organise unparalleled work on behalf of families ands children, in this immediate area, facing what all of us would consider to be the worst possible life scenario”.
